The entire area I fixed is much stronger than anything on the original boat.Lumbridge Hard Diary Ardy Medium Diary. the threads might "melt' !! My reinforcing seemed to work great last year. Caution!! Never using a driver to tighten your nuts on stainless bolts. I finished by installing two very heavy duty metal struts inside the v-berth roof against the plywood from side to side and drilled 4 holes through everything guided by the holes in the backing plate. ![]() I then installed the thick stainless cleat backing plate on top of the deck with lots of 5200 (centered left/right and front/back over the plywood below). I did this to make the plywood marginally flexible, since the deck roof still had a little curvature remaining. Before I installed the plywood I cut paralel striations with my circular saw into the upward facing side of the plywood. I installed cloth backed Epoxy Structural Adhesive Filler and Resin and tried to establish a relatively flat plane surface on the inside of the v-berth "roof".Īfter that step I installed 12 mm marine plywood over the epoxy plane surface. In order to install backing, I needed to establish/build a flat "plane" surface to install backing structure. I then did the rest of the important work on my back inside the v-berth, looking up at the bottom of the triangular shaped deck piece from the inside. I bought a large stainless winged cleat and a heavy duty backing plate (used 3m 5200 for the plate install). I reinforced the hull deck in the front (from below, inside the birth) where the tiny cleat was formerly located in the center top of the deck (triangular area in the front, on top). It's fine for very protected anchorages, but not worth trusting in real water. I can see the mooring from my dining room window! BTW, the small bow-eye WILL pull through the hull (or crack it) with sustained pulling because the Eastporter hull is SO thin. The Eastporter rocked quite high in the water with the 2' to 3' waves, but never seemed dangerously unstable. Instead, I used a big commercial mooring ball connected to chain and a 2500 lb granite block (which seemed to handle storms and large (too fast) lobster boats flying by - (thus creating big waves). I did NOT eventually tie my boat up to my float for more than a few minutes, due to concerns about the strength of the piles holding the float. I'll try to send photos of what I did finally to deal with this issue. HERE I AM !!! After almost 10 months! I don't monitor this site or my email very often!!! ![]()
